FAQ: Non-Corporate Devices, Roaming Devices, and Third-Party Vendor Policies
Non-Corporate Devices, Roaming Devices, and Third-Party Vendor Policies
Please review the frequently asked questions below regarding Worksighted’s Non-Corporate Device, Roaming Device, and Third-Party Vendor Policies.
What is changing?
Non-Corporate Device Policy: Due to security risks, Worksighted will no longer assist in troubleshooting personal devices connecting to corporate resources (VPN, Microsoft 365, Remote Desktop, etc.) as we cannot ensure the security of that equipment.
Roaming Device Policy: Worksighted will no longer provide support for non-corporate networks or computers such as your home router or personal computer. It poses a security risk to Worksighted systems to be connecting to and modifying home equipment. We are unable to connect to personally-owned computers.
Third-Party Vendor Policy: Similar to personal devices, Worksighted cannot ensure the security of vendor equipment connecting to your network via VPN, Remote Desktop, etc. Vendors needing access to support your business will receive enhanced security measures such as time limits or limiting the scope of access until it is needed. We will work with you to determine the best connection approach that grants vendor access while managing risk and protecting your business.
When are these changes occurring?
These changes are effective immediately.
Why is Worksighted implementing these policy changes?
We are implementing these policy changes to stay in line with industry best practices for security.
What role does my organization need to play in this process?
We ask that you make sure these changes are communicated within your organization to avoid any frustrations when your employees call in for support. We also ask you to understand that these changes, while potentially inconvenient, are important security practices.
I have some special situations; will you allow exceptions?
Yes, we will allow exceptions, but these are done against the recommendations of Worksighted and will require a sign-off by authorized personnel.
How do we request exceptions?
Simply open a ticket via email to help@worksighted.com and indicate what type of exception you require.
Who should we contact if a third-party vendor cannot follow Worksighted’s recommendations or they have more detailed questions?
You should follow up with your Client Success Manager.
What about using email on my personal cell phone? Is that still supported?
Yes, we will support business email applications like Microsoft Outlook on your personal phone, as well as Microsoft Authenticator to facilitate multi-factor authentication.
If I am using a company laptop and I am offsite, will Worksighted still support this device?
Yes, all corporate-owned equipment is fully supported. We simply ask you to understand that we cannot make changes to the surrounding environment (e.g., your home network, your client’s network).
Will Worksighted still help me load my home printer on my corporate laptop?
Yes, our support team can assist you in setting this up, if it does not require our support team to make connections to your home equipment.
Will Worksighted help me set up a VPN connection from my home computer back to the corporate network?
No, this is against our policy and would require an exception request to be submitted.
What equipment does Worksighted recommend for home-use to create a more secure environment?
a. Ensure you are running home network equipment with router functionality that implements a firewall with dynamic firmware updating.
b. Ensure all computers on your home network are running antivirus and anti-malware protection software.
c. Ensure you are using a password manager such as BitWarden to store, manage, and maintain your personal passwords.
d. Ensure you are utilizing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all your personal accounts.
e. Consider implementing an OpenDNS function to protect web traffic and block malicious or harmful content categories and internet addresses.
f. Consider an always-on virtual private network connection to safeguard privacy.
